Maltese passport and life as an EU citizen for anyone with £546,000 - 0 views

  •
Maltese is selling passports to members of other countries to have access to the EUs custom union. This may lead to trade creation and we would expect people to buy the passport for such a reason. However this could also lead to trade diversion and so people will have to factor in this with their decision to either join this monetary union.

EU-Canada trade deal gateway to 'super' no-tariff zone - 0 views

  •
A recent agreement between Canada and the European Union has created a free-trade condition between the two countries. The action is intended to have beneficial effects for both parties, including new jobs and additional demand for businesses in Canada. In addition, it is likely to reduce the country's dependency on the United States, with which it has traded freely since 1987. People hope that this agreement will eventually lead to a larger free-trade agreement between the United States and the European Union, but not much progress has yet been made.

Public Goods and why we need them - 0 views

  •
The article is talking about the changes in Public goods in different generations. The writer is comparing privatisation and public goods and services. These days, however, the distinction between 'public' and 'private' has become blurred. In Britain, for example, the railways were privatised and an 'internal market' was created within the National Health Service on the grounds that this improved the efficiency of service delivery for 'customers'. There are some circumstances in which it is sensible to privatise, there are many good reasons why wholesale privatisation should be shunned.

Euro unemployment - 0 views

  •
This relatively short article is more of a quick overview of the European unemployment situation. We all know about Greece's economic crisis, well this graph allows you to see how truly wide spread this economic disaster has had on europe and other countries. I also recommend looking up a video or two on the subject as this crisis has had a wider spread than most people believe. But sticking to the article, it is very interesting to see how diverse the different rates of unemployment are in the EU.

in my backyard - 0 views

I thought that this article was interesting as it showed how geopolitical conflicts can arise from simple wanting to trade freely. The Ukraine feels that it is in their will to be abel to trade with the EU however Russia would luck out on simple regional trading and in seeing this Russia has made it very difficult for Ukraine to trade with Russia.

Free trade agreement could mean jobs, exports boost for state - 0 views

  •
According to the Bertelsmann Foundation, "a free trade agreement between the U.S. and the European Union... would mean more than 9,000 jobs and an estimated 138 percent increase in state exports to the EU." The negotiations have been stalled because of the government shutdown in the U.S.
