In this activity, students divide fractions using area models. They can adjust the numerators and denominators of the divisor and dividend and see how the area model and calculation change. This lesson is based on the idea that middle school students can better understand the procedure for dividing fractions if they analyze division through a sequence of problems. Students start with division of whole numbers, followed by division of a whole number by a unit fraction, division of a whole number by a non-unit fraction, and finally division of a fraction by a fraction. Activity sheets and guiding questions are included.

What a great new creative way to bring interest to the classroom. This is an EASY way to create cartoons - ones to teach, others for kids to reflect and comment. Throw one up on your board and watch what happens.

Now THIS one was awesome - it is the closest I've come to magic! I know everything in math is explainable, but this one blew me away. And kids who struggle with multiplication love this "game." And our Russian kids love the fact that it comes from their homeland.

If we teach it and no one learns, did we teach it? We must find ways to help kids who struggle with multiplication. This was actually easy once I tried it!
