World Hunger is a very large problem and steps are being taken to improve this issue. One sixth of the world's population goes to bed hungry every night, and every year about one million children die from severe malnutrition. A new approach was taken to feeding the hungry and it's called "Community-based Therapeutic Care" or CMAM. There are many therapeutic feeding centers popping up over the world to help people from suffering from malnutrition. The treatment requires an average of 30 days of 24-hour-a-day care; CMAM has programs in 9 different countries. Overall, steps are being taken to improve world hunger but they need support from the world to improve the treatments.

This is Bias by Omission because the author leaves out any real in depth details about any country's economic/ hunger problems other than African countries.
  • One huge problem is that the price of fertilizer in Africa is often two to four times the world price. Yet African soil and rainfall make much of the continent subpar for growing food. In other words, the region that probably needs fertilizer the most also has to pay the most for it, and much of Africa doesn’t have the prosperity to make this an easy stretch.
  • Second, the United States government should stop subsidizing its own corn-based biofuels, mainly ethanol.

This shows bias by imagery because it implies that the problem of hunger affects everyone on the planet.

The hunger problem in Africa is a result of price increases and a poor agriculture. The calorie intake per capita doesn't seem higher today than it was in the early 1960's. The little available food is a result of agriculture being so difficult to transmit through different countries. Agriculture also seems to be one of the lagging economiic sectors of the last two decades. The poor agriculture may also be because the price of fertilizer is two to four times higher in Africa compared to the world price. Along with poor agriculture in Africa, many African nations have unhelpful policies toward agriculture that make the distribution and ability to recieve food much more difficult. Also Africa has several very important resources like gold and diamonds, however the prices for these resources are suffering greatly. I feel because the author spends the majority of article talking about Africa they feeel the world hunger problem is mainly in Africa.

Hunger in africa is caused by the lack of food. The lack of food is caused by them unable to produce food, they cannot produce healthy food because they cannot grow the food properly.

Policies have caused many african countries to not have a good functioning agriculture system.

  • On top of all that, many African nations have unhelpful policies toward agriculture. Malawi, for instance, subjects corn to periodic export and import restrictions as well as to price controls, all of which thwart development of a well-functioning market. When market speculators save corn in anticipation of greater scarcity, they may be punished by law. These restrictions of market incentives exacerbate the basic supply problems.

The reason for the lack of hunger in many countries: is because people don't put feeding people as a need
  • First, put food problems higher on the agenda. In the United States, there is no general consciousness of the precarious state of global agriculture. Even in the economics profession, the field of agricultural economics is often viewed as secondary in status.

This article is saying that hunger is a huge problem and we are not taking the right steps towards fixing it especially is third world countries in Africa. First, the revolution has slowed since the early 1990s, and it has become harder to bolster crop yield. One of the reasons for this problem is because the Production and calorie intake per capita don't seem to be higher today than they were in the early 1960s. Thus causing it harder to feed people because there is not food. Next, the crops are harder to fertilize in Africa because fertilizer cost 2-4 times for than the average world cost. And organic farming isn't much better, it typically produces smaller yields - 5 to 34 percent smaller than average in Africa. Lastly, in America, about 40 percent of the field corn goes into biofuels, thanks to a subsidy and regulatory policy dating from 2005. The authors perspective is that many African countries need help producing food so they can survive, and also that the "richer" countries should not be wasting their crops but help the countries that need the help.

Hunger and malnutrition are still the number one risks to health worldwide. This is proved by stating that 870 million people in our world today do not have the nutrient needed daily; that is one in eight people not having a healthy, active life. In addition, a five to ten percent loss of lifetime earnings will effect children who had their mental and physical development delayed due to hunger and malnutrition. Each year, nearly seven million children die each year, accounting for at least one third being from malnutrition. Further more, the world is split about 50 50 with the amount of male and females, but 60 percent of world hunger is accounted from females. According to the Millennium Development Goals, the 21st century is at the all time record of hunger compared to all the other centuries. Most important, hunger and malnutrition has topped being more of a risk than AIDS, malaria, and TB combined. In this article, you can pull out that the author has a bias by image. The issue was focused on world hunger, but the author only selected pictures of American American's and Asian. One the same topic, bias by selection was also shown by he said there was 20 countries suffering the most, but only named four of those counties; Syria, Ethiopia, Haiti, and Pakistan.
