    The reason for my choice is to show that GDS is still preferred in this age. No matter what evolution takes place with direct booking, GDS would never fade away. It is proven that via GDS, the occupancy in hotels are greater than direct booking, once again due to the fact that people have used this before and are comfortable with it and will not want to change.

    The reason for this post is that i am currently using Linkedin part of my networking tool and i am sure many are using this as well. With this tool, you can really use it to its maximum capacity including, having discussions on certain topics, posting job vacanies, getting to know people of your own field of work, creating a group and inviting people to join the group.... the functions are endless. I really use this effectively on a daily basis trying to find candidates, posting jobs and i do get a lot of responses as well.

    In my career within hotels, what struck me the most was the GDA that the St Regis adopted and now is part of the brand standard for the St Regis hotels worldwide. Just with a touch a button you can practically do anything and everything you would like to in your room, without moving from your bed. You can even order In room dining using this feature. This is something ultra luxurious and has taken a liking by many guests who has used this before. Now with this being said, Starwood in Middle East is coming up with the GDA for guest rooms that are voice activated to do everything for you

    Unfortunately, i was unable to find any article on this since this is an internal procedure for Starwood Associates.
    But the reason i would like to post this is because, when i used this it was really user friendly. Basically this online tool is linked to our Starwood preferred vendors and when you order something, this goes directly to the vendor eliminating the use of papers, and emails.
    As well this has a function to input your budget for that month say for "guest room supplies and as soon as you order it, this reflects in your declining budget thus prevents you from over spending and as well cost controlling thus making it easy to achieve your rooms flowthrough.
    The way this works is after the originator places the order, it goes directly to the department head for approval. Once that is done, it goes to the Financial Controller for approval and ther after the GM. This is all online and the respective person gets an automated email informing them that a new purchase order has been generated and that it needs their approval.
    I feel that this system should be implemented as well in other hotel companies across the globe for reasons of cost saving, eliminating the use of paper and more importantly nothing is lost in the process for the signing of the purchase order.
    Since i am currently in Japan, i a trying to install such a tool in my current hotel.
