Data Security in Hospitality: Risks and Best Practices | By Limon Wainstein - Hospitali... - 0 views

  • Information security is a pivotal aspect of many industries, not least the hospitality industry due to the nature of the data collected by companies operating within hospitality.
  • hospitality appears to offer an ideal target vector for conducting crimes such as identity theft and credit card fraud due to the existence of multiple databases and devices
  • ybercriminals use this reliance on cards to infect point-of-sale (POS) systems with malware that steals credit and debit card information by scraping the data.

  • Restaurants, hotels, and other companies in the hospitality sector often have complex ownership structures in which theres a franchisor, an individual owner or group of owners, and a management company that acts as the operator.
  • A vital part of protecting data is training staff to securely gather and store personal information.
  • The high level of turnover and high degree of staff movement between different locations makes it a real challenge to maintain teams of well-trained staff
  • Industry and political regulators are becoming stricter in governing how organizations process and store personal data.
  • This type of data risk is more subtle and it involves employees selling data to third parties without the knowledge of the organization that employs them.
  •
Information security is absolutely crucial within the Hospitality industry. There is so much important guest and customer information that is submitted via technology. This includes, credit card details, addresses, and phone numbers, with so much of this information being sensitive companies need to install security systems. The hospitality industry depends strongly on credit card as a form of payment which is why the POS needs to be secure. It is also extremely important that staff members are trained to gather and store guests personal information. The industry overall has become stricter in the ways that information gets gathered and processed in order to avoid cyber attacks. The last thing that companies must keep an eye on are insider threats, a lot of the time it's the employees from the company that are giving away valuable and confidential information to third parties. This is why I believe that technology has had a great impact on this industry but there needs to be strong security systems in order to avoid cyber attacks.

  • If implemented correctly, it can help optimize everyday procedures and render them more efficient.
  • The program not only provides our investors with a more convenient and transparent experience; it also allows us as a company to be more efficient.
  • It seems pretty obvious to combine service with technology, but it’s actually relatively uncharted territory in the hospitality industry.
  • I firmly believe that the future of the hospitality industry is heading in this direction,  and I encourage leaders in the industry to explore, test and implement these systems and see the benefits for themselves.
  • So go ahead and implement all of the cool, high-tech systems you want.
  •
Information technology has become extremely important to the hospitality industry. It has helped with customer service, financial status, and in many other ways. With so much changing with information technology it is vital that companies keep up with all these changes in order to not fall behind. As stated in the article if information technology is implemented correctly it can help a company become the most efficient it has ever been. This has also helped improve the communication between companies and their investors, now communication can be done via email or call in a matter of seconds. As I stated above it has also improved guest service and communication, this includes apps, messages and allowing guests to have immediate assistance with any of their needs. When you improve customer service and create an open window for communication, it brings in more guests to want to stay with your company and give their business to you. Not only this but, technology has helped companies save money by needing to provide less staff. This is why information technology has helped so many companies succeed financially.

Why Your Property Management System Should Do More Than Manage Your Property | By Nico... - 0 views

  • While there are many systems that play a critical role in the strategic optimization of a hotel's operational structure, the PMS represents the technological heartbeat of any property.
  • ortunately, a mobile PMS allows for real-time communication with housekeeping and instant room status updates, leading to an 80% reduction of calls made to the front office, and a 20% increase in housekeeping productivity.
  • A mobile PMS is essential for hoteliers to thrive in this new, guest-centric environment.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • the PMS acts as a centralized hub of vital information relating to revenue, guest engagement, staff efficiencies, and reporting.
  • a cloud-based PMS which offers easy integration through an open API will allow a hotel to grow, stay ahead of market trends, and connect to best-of-breed solutions 一 without the expensive and time-consuming upgrade costs of legacy systems.
  • A PMS should be able to optimize profits with built-in capabilities that include detailed reporting and financials for better business decisions, centralized guest stay data to tailor guest experiences, revenue management to maximize ADR and RevPAR,
  •
This article explains the importance of what a property management system should do. It is said that the PMS is the core of any hospitality company. The PMS gathers information about revenue, guests, staff, and any reporting necessary. Although the PMS is known to manage your company, it should also help with customer service and generate more revenue. I's important that todays PMS systems are available to all on their mobile devices, making it easier for guests. The PMS is also something that needs to be used for both front and back of the house functions, this includes house keeping and human resources. Lastly, this system should be compatible to all other forms of technology. I believe the PMS serves many functions to help ensure a company succeeds.

  • A global distribution system is a computer network, which empowers service providers in the travel industry to carry out seamless transactions.
  • using a global distribution system helps to reach a larger number of customers.
  • These fees can vary significantly, but it is not unusual for the fees to account for around 10 percent of the amount paid.
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Amadeus GDS ranks as the market leader and it is estimated that somewhere in the region of 40 percent of all travel agency booking
  • All of this means that hotels have the ability to manage their hotel description, room listings, photos and other information across different GDS systems from a single place, while usage can also be automated.
  • Travelport is a company that owns the Worldspan, Galileo and Apollo systems.
  • The Sabre global distribution system is the closest competitor for Amadeus when it comes to total market share
  •
Global Distribution systems ensure that the travel industry gets accurate information and keeps track of data and information. The GDS is a single system that reaches out to very large groups and gives them access to prices and availability of rooms. The GDS comes at a price, for every booking they take a certain percentage of that rate. The best known global distribution systems are Amadeus GDS, Sabre GDS, and Travelport GDS. All of these systems are different but most of the travel bookings are done through them. I believe the GDS is a great way to to attract potential travelers and it makes it easy because everything is on one system.

  • As the hospitality industry has arguably always been more service focused than retail, these developments should be of great interest to the operators of restaurants, bars, pubs, hotels and so on.
  • Hardware has a key role to play in boosting service in the hospitality industry. Here are three emerging trends in hospitality EPOS hardware that do just that.
  • Some restaurants are already moving towards replacing menus with either M-POS tablets or fixed kiosks at tables which customers can use to place an order directly. Kiosks could play a similar role in hotel rooms, allowing guests to order room service or else offering a ‘smart concierge’ facility.
  • Making full use of wireless broadband, this is what Mobile EPOS, or M-POS, solutions like the AURES SWING and iRuggy offer.
  • ome restaurants are already moving towards replacing menus with either M-POS tablets or fixed kiosks at tables which customers can use to
  • What if everything could be done on a single device, at the table, there and then – orders taken, input into the EPOS system, forwarded to the kitchen and processed for payment?
  • Traditionally, scanners have not been a necessary part of the hospitality EPOS arsenal because there has not been a need to scan barcodes or similar when making sales.
  •
This article talks about the three hardware systems that are trending now in the hospitality industry. The Mobile EPOS, Kioks, and Scanners are all meant to make the job of the company run smoother and more efficiently. The EPOS makes it easier to get everything done in one place, for example placing an order, paying and receiving a receipt. Kiosks allow customers to place their own order and have the food delivered to them. Lastly, scanners are a great help when it come tp updating records.
