'On December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The next day, the United States and Britain declared war on Japan. Two months later, on February 19, 1942, the lives of thousands of Japanese Americans were dramatically changed when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. This order led to the assembly and evacuation and relocation of nearly 122,000 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry on the west coast of the United States.'

"The Clergy of the Church of England Database 1540-1835 (CCEd), launched in 1999 and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, makes available and searchable the principal records of clerical careers from over 50 archives in England and Wales with the aim of providing coverage of as many clerical lives as possible from the Reformation to the mid-nineteenth century.

Contains a wealth of information on the local level of Church operations in England from the period.

From 1939 to 1953, nearly one million people were deported to the Gulag from the European territories annexed by the USSR at the start of the Second World War and those that came under Soviet influence after the War: some to work camps but most as forced settlers in villages in Siberia and Central Asia. An international team of researchers has collected 160 statements from former deportees, photographs of their lives, documents from private and public archives and films. Many of these witnesses had never spoken out before. In these statements and these documents, the Museum invites you to explore a neglected chapter of the history of Europe.

Ancient Lives is recruiting laymen to help transliterate the Oxyrhynchus Papyrii. No knowledge of Greek required, but you get first hand experience of what archaeologists and papyrologists do in the process - measuring manuscripts, identifying letters, etc.

Related are accounts of Indian ceremonies, customs, social conditions, philosophies, and standards of living. Members of every tribe resident in Oklahoma were interviewed.'

In the town of Rochefort, south west of France, a team of passionated people have undertaken a tremendous challenge The reconstruction of the Hermione, the ship on which La Fayette embarked in 1780, to bring help and support to the American insurgents. Since its beginning, the construction site is a true living show place, open yearly to visitors. Once the Hermione is fully completed, it is planned to sail again on La Fayette's journey, from Rochefort to Boston, via the Franco-American historical stops along the eastern coast « The Lafayette trip »
