  The Washington Monument was a monument built on the National Mall in Washington D.C. to honor and remember George Washington for all of the service that he has done for the United States. The construction began in 1848, was stopped from 1854-1877, and was finally completed in 1884. The shape that was finally decided on for the monument was an obelisk.
