Earth Exploration Toolbook - 1 views

  •
The Earth Exploration Toolbook is a collection of computer-based Earth science activities. Each activity, or chapter, introduces one or more data sets and an analysis tool that enables users to explore some aspect of the Earth system. Step-by-step instructions in each chapter walk users through an example-a case study in which they access data and use analysis tools to explore issues or concepts in Earth system science. In the course of completing a chapter, users produce and analyze maps, graphs, images, or other data products. The ultimate goal of each activity is to build user's skills and confidence so they can use data to conduct their own investigations of the Earth system.

"A new science curriculum unit from The JASON Project enables students to explore one of society's most important issues -- energy --in a new distribution format featuring print-on-demand and other solutions for 21st-century classrooms. "Operation: Infinite Potential" is the third unit in JASON's new line of science curricula, following units on ecology and weather. Each unit fully integrates digital and print content in an inquiry-based approach to instruction. Using research articles, hands-on labs, field assignments, videos, computer games, and other multimedia, students work with leading scientists to investigate and analyze emerging technologies designed to meet the needs of an energy-hungry planet. And for the first time, JASON is allowing free downloading and printing of all online Student and Teacher Editions in the new curriculum."

Interactive Science Videos - Children's Hospital Boston - 0 views

  •
The research department at Children's Hospital Boston has developed a series of web-based Flash tutorials to present complex medical and biological concepts in an interactive, user-friendly format. These free science "interactives" are useful for students and educators, as well as anyone interested in the latest medical research and how it works. Recent additions to the site include "How Cancer Grows and Spreads," an animated feature that illustrates the growth, progression, and metastasis of carcinomas, and "The Neuron," which allows users to experiment with a virtual neuron to see what conditions are needed to make it fire and with a circuit of interconnected neurons to see how neurons work together to process information. Other tools on the site let users manipulate stem cells and control cell structure. -  Summary from eSchoolNews (http://www.eschoolnews.com/news/site-of-the-week/site/?i=53048;_hbguid=ce3fc7f4-4080-437e-bdfc-9649ec2e5282&d=top-news)
