Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink - 0 views

  •
Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink When my mother asked about the topic for my latest column, I replied, "The proposed ban on bottled water." MYTH BOTTLED WATER ISN'T AS REGULATED AS TAP WATER. - 0 views

  •
MYTH BOTTLED WATER ISN'T AS REGULATED AS TAP WATER. FACT By federal law, the FDA regulations governing the safety and quality of bottled water must be as stringent as the EPA regulations which govern tap water. To suggest in any way that bottled water is less stringently regulated than tap water is simply not true. Bottled water companies produce a safe, healthy, and convenient packaged food product that is comprehensively and stringently regulated by the FDA under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), 21 U.S.C. §§ 301 et seq., and applicable sections of Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Bottled water must meet the FDA's general food regulations, as well as standards of identity, standards of quality, good manufacturing practices and labeling requirements specifically promulgated for bottled water. The FDA has issued comprehensive bottled water Standards of Identity, which provide uniform requirements and definitions for the following bottled water classifications: bottled, drinking, artesian, groundwater, distilled, deionized, reverse osmosis, mineral, purified, sparkling, spring, sterile, and well water [21 C.F.R. § 165.110 (a)].

  •
One innovative company is introducing rEarth, a line of 100% recycled flowerpots made from water bottles. Since only about 25% of plastic water bottles get recycled, the company hopes their new line will help raise awareness and encourage recycling. If you've ever bought a plant at a garden center or grocery store, chances are it came in a plastic pot. Stores and greenhouses prefer plastic because it's clean, inexpensive,

Recycled water bottles; are you wearing one? - 0 views

  •
An interesting New York Times article discusses the use of plastics to make fleece. It was not until 1993 that industry-leasers Patagonia and Polartec began pursuing the use of recycled plastics in their materials. In recent years, however, the industry has greatly improved the use of recycled plastics (such as bottled water containers) to embrace environmental issues and still keep consumers warm and comfortable.

WHY CHOOSE BOTTLED WATER? - 0 views

  •
Some groups have sought to frame drinking water issues as a "bottled water versus tap water debate" and that confuses consumers. Consumers are not uniformly replacing their public drinking water with bottled water; rather they are choosing bottled water over the other beverages available at the store and home.
