Community Pharmacy Vision: Future & Funding Insights - 0 views

  •
Achieving the community pharmacy vision necessitates legal adjustments and additional funding beyond recent boosts, the pharmacy vision document published by Nuffield Trust and The King's Fund has revealed. It says community pharmacies in England must adapt to changing population needs amidst unprecedented health and care challenges. Commissioned by Community Pharmacy England, the report titled 'A Vision for Community Pharmacy', published on Sept. 19, is a result of almost a year of research and extensive consultation with the sector and wider stakeholders, advocating for community pharmacy. The think tanks detail a shift in the community pharmacy sector, highlighting how pharmacies can contribute to crucial policy objectives regarding population health, prevention, and the increasing demand in primary care. Obesity Crisis 2025 : UK Government's Weak Response Sparks Criticism - 0 views

  •
The Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee has expressed disappointment with the government's response to its recommendations for tackling the obesity crisis. In October 2024, the Committee released its report, Recipe for Health: A Plan to Fix Our Broken Food System, following a special inquiry. The report identified obesity and diet-related diseases as a public health emergency, costing society billions annually in healthcare expenses and lost productivity. It urged the government to develop a "comprehensive, integrated long-term new strategy to fix the food system", supported by a new legislative framework and outlined key actions that should be included. The government published its response to the report on 30 January 2025, but the Committee criticized it for lacking boldness and delaying many necessary measures. Baroness Walmsley, who chaired the Committee said: "In recent interviews with researchers, former prime ministers and health secretaries expressed regret that they had not done more to tackle obesity and advised the government to 'be bold and act fast'. "The report from the Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee recommended bold measures to be implemented immediately.

Empower Pharmacist to Prescribe: Exploring Labour Promising Policy 2024 UK - 0 views

  •
Healthcare reform emerged as a cornerstone of the Labour Party's manifesto leading up to the recent general election. A standout pledge was the establishment of a Community Pharmacist Prescribing Service, aimed at granting pharmacists independent prescribing rights where clinically suitable. This initiative is seen as a positive step in addressing critical challenges within the National Health Service (NHS). Numark Chairman Harry McQuillan praised Labour's recognition of pharmacists' role in patient care through expanded prescribing rights. "Let's be honest, pharmacists are an underutilised resource within the healthcare system. We possess extensive training and expertise, yet our full potential hasn't always been acknowledged. "By harnessing pharmacists expanded prescribing rights, Labour is acknowledging our significant role in patient care. This initiative aims to recognise our skills and enhance patient care, ensuring quicker access to necessary treatments," he said. However, he pointed out that the concept requires further exploration, as the rights to prescribe are already granted through the recent change to undergraduate training that incorporates prescribing.
