Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of conditions caused by medical abnormalities in the development of a fetus or the early life of a child. These lead to damage or delayed development in the brain. The disorder is permanent and, though it does not worsen with age, the level of functionality of a person with cerebral palsy varies widely: in some cases, effects may be very minor, while in others, movement is impaired to the extent that a wheelchair is required. Common complications associated with CP vary by the type of CP disorder but can include vision problems, seizures, learning disabilities, and issues speaking, writing, and performing other tasks related to motor control. Cerebral palsy is the focus of a large amount of medical research every year. Though much of this research deals with younger patients, more and more attention is being paid to CP sufferers as they age and seek fuller opportunities and more integration with the rest of society. Living with CP is a daily challenge, but paths to a richer and more fulfilling life are being found. There is not, and may never be a "cure" for CP, but greater understanding by clinicians and the daily success stories of those who overcome their limitations are making. Causes of Liver Damage and Liver Problems The liver is an organ about the size of a football that sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. The liver is essential for digesting food and ridding your body of toxic substances. Liver disease can be inherited (genetic) or caused by a variety of factors that damage the liver, such as viruses and alcohol use. Obesity is also associated with liver damage. Regardless of whether it takes place over many years or a few weeks, liver failure is an absolutely devastating health development that, if left untreated, can result in the death of a patient. There are essentially two types of liver failure: acute, which can emerge over the course of a very short period (such as a few weeks or even less), and chronic, which tends to last many years. Although acute and chronic liver failure patients often experience similar symptoms, the causes of these two conditions - in addition to their treatments - can be unique. How Do You Differentiate Kidney Pain from Back Pain? | Diseases and Treatments - 0 views

  •
One of the best bits of knowledge into a health issue or condition is the side effects that you are encountering. Side effects are the primary signs of a malady or a health issue that requirements further examination and activity. While there are some signs ordinarily connected with a specific condition or sickness, there are some that are basic to numerous illnesses, in this way making it hard to bind the reason for a health concern. In this manner, a reasonable comprehension of the qualities, causes, and triggers, about illnesses is vital in situations where their side effects are comparable. Here are key elements that can help you differentiate between back pain and kidney pain: 1. Causes: The most common cause of kidney pain is kidney stones. Kidney stones are crystallized minerals that block urine flow and cause severe pain. Kidney pain can also be caused due to pyelonephritis or kidney infection. Back pain, on the other hand, occurs due to inflammation. It can also be a result of medical conditions like fractures, osteoporosis, spondylitis, multiple myeloma, cancer, lumbar disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, etc. Even stress can trigger back pain. 2. Characteristics: Kidney pain is characterized by a constant, sharp (in the case of kidney stones) or dull (in the event of kidney infection) or throbbing pain. The severity of back pain, on the other hand, changes during the day. 3. Location: The location of kidney pain is in the upper abdomen along with one or both flanks - the area between the lower ribs and the hips. Back pain occurs in and around the lower back or the upper buttocks. 4. Symptoms: Commonly associated symptoms with kidney pain include chills, fever, nausea, vomiting, cloudy urine, excessive urine, bloody urine, stinging sensation during urination, and edema. The symptoms of back pain include numbness and muscle tightness in the foot or toes.

Dry eyes : How to deal with it | Eye Health Care - 0 views

  •
Dry eye syndrome is incredibly common and prevalence is increasing globally. Studies show that prevalence rates vary from five to 50 per cent but can be as high as 75 per cent in people over the age of 40, in people who wear contact lenses and those who work with computers. It is more common in women than in men, particularly during and after the menopause. According to a new real-world research commissioned by world experts in eye-care, Rohto, more than eight in ten women (83 per cent) indicate that they suffer from the condition, but only once they have had the symptoms of dry eye syndrome described to them. Without detailed explanation, 56 per cent of people say they have never even heard of dry eye syndrome, showing just how under diagnosed it may be. Causes of dry eye Dry eyes are a clinical cause of eye irritation, fatigue, and discomfort, often causing feelings of itchiness, grittiness, and excess watering. If left untreated, dry eyes can even lead to long-term damage and sight problems. Dry eyes may occur if enough tears aren't produced if poor-quality tears are generated or if the tears evaporate from the surface of the eye too quickly. This leads to poor lubrication of the tear film. In a normal eye, the tear film4- the multilayer moist protective film - covers the cornea and lubricates the eye. However, if the lubricative process is faulty dry spots appear on the surface of the eye and this causes irritation and discomfort. The tear film has several layers: fatty oils, aqueous fluid, and mucus. This combination normally keeps the surface of your eyes lubricated, smooth and clear. But problems with any of these layers can cause dry eyes.
