UKVIA:Pharmacy sales of vape not solution curb underage use - 0 views

  •
Restricting sales of vape products to pharmacies is not a solution to curb illegal sales of vape among underage adults, said UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA). In an oral evidence at the House of Commons on 'Youth Vaping' called by the Health and Social Care Select Committee (HSSC) to figure out action needed to reduce vaping among those under 18. Rachael Maskell, York Central MP's suggested on vape products being available from licensed pharmacies. Marcus Saxton, Chairman, Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA) said: "We are calling for further regulation to tighten up what has now been an extreme growth in single-use products. If you put them into those environments, as New Zealand and Australia are telling us, the perception of the public is that, while they can buy tobacco freely anywhere, the vaping product that is up to 95% safer is licensed through a pharmacy. It makes absolutely no sense. The negative consequence of considering such a thing will take us backwards years."

  •

If you go for a vacation or a trip, or just go shopping or visit the doctor, it is an ideal solution for occasional wheelchair users. It folds easily and can be stored in very little space. All lightweight folding wheelchairs are ergonomically designed for comfort and crash tested for safety and durability. They are technically advanced and performance-oriented. Modern technology has helped to make mans existence on Earth a lot more convenient and comfortable letting him do things that help in manipulating the environment in a way that allows everyone to achieve their goals despite facing health and lifestyle related problems. Among the many technological achievements to cheer about one that is known as the motorized wheelchair lift is sure to provide a lot of cheer to every disabled person. No doubt, owning a motorized wheelchair lift can prove to be a costly business; but, it does help do away with needing to use muscle power in order to move about on a wheelchair and in the end the price that you end up paying will prove to be good value for money. The lightweight Karma Ergo Lite 2501 Wheelchair cannot be designed to fit the user as in the rigid frame wheelchairs. It has to fold into a compact shape; hence its ability to fit or adjust is greatly reduced. Therefore it does not offer high comfort benefits, but its main ability to quickly fold and store in the trunk of a car makes it popular among older users who are not traveling too often. The folding wheelchair ramp with it can easily be taken on trips and vacations and used in places, where there are no special arrangements for wheelchair users. Another consideration to buying a motorized wheelchair is that it is not a device that folds up when not in use and this means needing to have enough storage space and even buying a van in order to transport the motorized wheelchair with you when you t

Total community pharmacy workforce drops 6 percent in a year - 0 views

  •
The full-time equivalent community pharmacy workforce saw a 6 per cent decline in a year, while the overall number of pharmacists remains nearly constant, according to NHS England's Community Pharmacy Workforce Survey 2022. However, vacancy rates among pharmacists rose 16 percent, suggesting an increased reliance on locum pharmacists who, on average, work fewer hours, the data revealed. According to NHSE, the mandated survey released (Aug. 3) achieved a 95 per cent completion rate among pharmacy contractors, marking a substantial increase compared to only 47 per cent in the previous year. The survey results indicate a shift in working patterns within community pharmacy, with locum pharmacists being utilised more frequently as part of the staffing model. The survey revealed a 6 per cent decrease in the community pharmacy workforce across all roles combined. The number of full-time equivalent pharmacists working in community pharmacy decreased by 2,411, from 20,255 in 2021 to 17,844 in 2022, the survey found. The employed pharmacists decreased by 16 per cent from 12,774 in 2021 to 10,943 in 2022, while locum pharmacists increased by 26 per cent from 4,297 in 2021 to 5,477 in 2022, NHSE said.

Schizophrenia and depression caused by smoking - 0 views

  •
Smoking increases the risk of developing schizophrenia and depression, a report by academics from the University of Bristol published on 20 June claims. It says smoking raises the risk of developing schizophrenia by between 53 per cent and 127 per cent and the risk of developing depression by from 54 per cent to 132 per cent. The authors of the report say more research is needed to identify why this is the case and that more evidence is needed to understand its impact on other mental health conditions such as anxiety or bipolar disorder. The evidence, presented at the Royal College of Psychiatrist's international congress, has been shared with the government which is currently developing a new Tobacco Control Plan for publication later this year. Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) said: "Rates of smoking are much higher among people with mental health conditions than those without, and among England's six million smokers there are an estimated 230k smokers with severe mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder) and 1.6 million with depression and anxiety."

Over three years, the 21-member Board will implement recommendations from the UK Commission on Pharmacy Professional Leadership's report aimed to enhance professional fulfillment among pharmacists while simultaneously augmenting patient safety standards. This announcement also follows with the appointment of Sir Hugh Taylor as its Independent Chair and the appointment of Independent Expert Members who expressed his delight over the role's "potential to lead and support collaboration across the professions in the UK". A recent study presented at the European Congress on Obesity in Venice sheds light on the detrimental effects of obesity on workplace absenteeism and economic productivity. The analysis, encompassing data from millions of workers across Europe, reveals a direct correlation between body mass index (BMI) and the likelihood of taking sick leave. According to the study, obese individuals are up to twice as likely to take time off work due to health issues compared to those of a healthy weight. The increased sick notes among obese individuals is attributed to various complications associated with obesity, including joint pain, diabetes, depression, and heart disease. In the United Kingdom, where obesity rates are among the highest in Europe, the impact of obesity on workplace absenteeism is particularly pronounced.
