"I think you can set the direction but it's quite difficult to set the destination with these things," Bhandari, who is part of the government-sponsored Parker review into the ethnic diversity of UK boards said during a panel discussion on Inclusive Leadership held as part of the Pharmacy Business Diversity Conference on Thursday (December 9). He said the aim of the review was to fix a destination like a milestone, it's not the ultimate destination. Bhandari highlighted that "most organisations have not even started and so a good way of getting started was by the end of 2021 to have at least one British born director of colour on your board for the FTSE 100 (companies)." The idea of the review is to "focus on that pathway and filling the hole inthedoughnut," Bhandari said.

'Open conversation is key to resolving race and ethnicity challenge' - 0 views

    The issues related to race and ethnicity are common across the sectors, but the problem is not unsolvable, said panelists in a discussion on Race, Identity and Belonging In The Workplace, held during the Pharmacy Business Diversity Conference on Thursday (December 9). Creating safe and comfortable spaces and allowing authentic conversations is a precursor to resolving this big challenge, said Zaheer Ahmad MBE, global head of Inclusion and Diversity at GSK Consumer Healthcare. The session, moderated by the conference chair BBC presenter Clive Myrie, also had Asif Sadiq MBE, senior vice president at WarnerMedia for Equity and Inclusion, International, and Sathya Bala, founder & CEO of True Change and My Skin My Story, a growing global community for women of colour. Ahmad said encouraging open conversations is important as there is great discomfort and stigma attached to talking about it, and many times senior leaders fall short in their efforts not because they have racist views or they don't believe in advancing race and ethnicity, but because they are not aware.

Despite strides in cancer care, the survey highlights persistent challenges in easy and equitable access to timely diagnosis and quality communication, particularly for individuals from Mixed, Black, or Asian backgrounds. Key insights from the survey underscored that individuals from ethnic minority groups often require a higher number of interactions with healthcare professionals before receiving a cancer diagnosis. Notably, one in three people from Mixed, Black, or Asian ethnicities needed three or more visits to a GP practice, compared to the average of one in five across the population. These delays in diagnosis can have significant implications for treatment outcomes and overall patient experience. Moreover, the survey revealed concerning trends regarding the quality of communication following a cancer diagnosis among ethnic minority patients.

Ethnic Minority Talent Exodus 2024 : NHS Diversity Taskforce Sounds Alarm - 0 views

    A new survey has highlighted concerning trends among ethnic minority communications professionals in the NHS, with many reporting negative workplace experiences and considering leaving their roles. Over a quarter (26 per cent) of ethnic minority NHS communications professionals surveyed stated that do not envisage remaining in their roles three years from now. Key reasons they cited include poor relationships with management (37per cent), dissatisfaction with the institution (34 per cent), and structural racism (32 per cent). Over 300 ethnic minority communication and engagement specialists from the NHS, charity, and commercial sectors participated in the study, conducted by the Taskforce for Diversity in NHS Communications. The survey collected their views to examine their unique experiences and challenges. Despite their high levels of education and career ambitions-97per cent hold a degree or higher, and over 90 per cent aspire to promotion within three years - many professionals now feel disillusioned.
