The Federal Government Just Broke Its Medical-Marijuana Promise - 0 views

  •
Few if any industries are growing at a quicker and more consistent pace in the U.S. than marijuana. A report released earlier this year by Marijuana Business Daily entitled "Marijuana Business Factbook 2017" found that the U.S. legal-weed market is expected to grow by 45% in 2018, and an aggregate of 300% between 2016 and 2021. If these projections are accurate, we could be talking about a $17 billion market by 2021. With growth like this, it's no wonder why marijuana stocks have gone through the roof in recent years.

Armour Thyroid Treatment - Is it Worth It? - 2 views

  •
Persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism can be frustrating for patients. They may not feel like they are getting the help they need from their doctors. Some common symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, weight gain, constipation, and mood swings. If you are diagnosed with persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism, your doctor may prescribe medication to help regulate your thyroid hormone levels. It is essential to take your medication as prescribed and to follow up with your doctor regularly.
  •
Armour Thyroid is a medication that is used to treat a variety of conditions, including hypothyroidism. It contains natural thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3), which, in addition to having a role in the regulation of metabolism, can also affect the cognitive process. It is usually used in cases where the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, so this drug is normally prescribed by doctors who do not think there are sufficient thyroid hormone levels in the patient's body.

London Pharmacist's Anti-Semitic Remarks: GPhC Reversal - 0 views

  •
The General Pharmaceutical Council's Fitness-to-Practise (FtP) committee has reversed its earlier decision ruling that a London pharmacist's statement, attributing the Grenfell tragedy to "Zionist supporters of the Tory party," amounted to the propagation of anti-Semitic tropes. In an initial 2020 hearing, the FtP committee found that a set of remarks delivered by Nazim Hussain Ali, Managing Partner of Chelsea Pharmacy Medical Clinic, through a megaphone to a crowd assembled at a Palestinian rights rally in central London in 2017 were deemed "grossly offensive," but not classified as anti-Semitic. Ali admitted his comments were offensive, but he was cleared of accusations of antisemitism and received a first warning on November 5, 2020. However, the High Court overturned this decision in June 2021 following an appeal by the Professional Standards Authority as the Judge found evidence of a "serious procedural or other irregularity" in the FtP committee's decision and instructed the GPhC to reopen the case.

MPs Question Health Secretary on Medicines Supply Issues - 0 views

  •
In the parliamentary drop-in-event hosted by Community Pharmacy England last week, Members of Parliament (MPs) questioned the Health Secretary on the rising issue of medicines supply. "Eighteen community pharmacists in my constituency are reporting challenges on medicine supplies. What more is the Minister going to do to get a grip of this situation?", Mike Amesbury MP for Weaver Vale, who was present at the event last week, asked the Health Secretary. In his response, the Health Secretary, Steve Barclay MP said: "We have a long-standing team in the Department focused on medical supplies, which are a continual issue; as a matter of routine business, there are often challenges in that area." The Shadow Pharmacy Minister, Karin Smyth MP, also asked: "People across the country rely on local, accessible pharmacies, but whether it is high street closures or supply problems leading to the absurd situation where women are phoning or visiting multiple pharmacies for a prescribed dose of hormone replacement therapy and other drugs…They have repeatedly announced plans to expand the role of community pharmacies but have failed to update legislation that could possibly help. … Why will they not do so?

PillTime installs Titan PMR to boost prescription growth - 0 views

  •
Online pharmacy PillTime has taken a step to boost its prescription growth by implementing new Patient Medication Record (PMR) system Titan in its state-of-the-art premises. PillTime moved to new, expanded 26,000sqft premises in Cribbs Causeway on the edge of Bristol earlier this year, where it has also installed state-of-the-art robotics in a bid to significantly enhance future productivity and capacity. Teething problems over Easter weekend saw PillTime struggling to seamlessly integrate all the new systems and processes while physically moving premises which affected service delivery and customer support. However, CEO Leighton Humphreys was supported by Tariq Muhammad, CEO of Invatech Health, who is a former community pharmacist and has worked with independent pharmacies around the UK as well as larger online businesses, to integrate Titan into their workflows. Alongside integration work, Muhammad and his team supported PillTime with necessary design, governance and pharmacy expertise as the company struggled to meet its usual high standards for dispensing medicines to patients.

Pharmacy Revolutionizing : Interface Specialists Unveiled - 0 views

A new report published today (June 29) by the think tank Policy Exchange highlights key role for community pharmacy in management of primary-secondary care interface. The report called Medical Evolution has received cross-party support. It says an equivalent of 15 million GP appointments per year are spent dealing with issues managing care between GP practices and hospitals. Research from the think tank also finds 150,000 people could be on 'hidden' waiting lists (where a patient has been referred by a GP for further treatment, but not included on official hospital waiting lists). On the eve of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, the report calls for the development of 'interface specialists' - which could be undertaken by doctors, nurses or community pharmacists to enable them to work more routinely across settings and to strategically plan interface working.
