For those who do not know what dyslexia is, it is a medical conditions where the person's ability to properly recognize and interpret written material is hindered. In traditional methods, patients with dyslexia are told to slowly and carefully read material. However, researchers at the University of Haifa in Israel have conducted research that shows the opposite. Patients and normal people were asked to read text on a computer screen that would quickly disappear (around 2 milliseconds per letter), forcing the reader to quickly read the content. Afterwards, the people were asked questions regarding what they just read, and the study found that dyslexic patients who have gone through the training for over 3 months showed a 25% increase in their comprehension, while normal people showed almost no change at all. This is significant, as even after six months from the experiment the dyslexic patients tested still retained the heightened comprehension abilities.

I chose to share this article as I know several people who are affected by dyslexia. It is stressful for them to try and read text properly while the people around them are having no trouble doing so. I found it interesting how the researchers tackled the problem in a completely different way than traditional methods, and so this reminds us that we should not be afraid to try new things.
