Outline of Transcendental Meditation - 0 views

In this meditation the mind actually experiences subtler states of thought without having to imagine, anticipate, or aim at any particular process. It is an entirely innocent process which succeeds under the personal guidance of a qualified teacher. THE IMPORTANCE OF REST Life processes in two fundamental steps: Rest an activity. And the quality of rest received influences all aspects of life. For example, after a sleepless night there is a tendency to feel tired, irritable and to be unable to think clearly. Whereas after a good nights rest one feels fresh and alert, able to think more clearly and constructively and can achieve more with less effort. Therefore happiness, health, success, and fulfillment in life are dependent on our ability to rest effectively and so regenerate the system. Lack of this ability forms the basics of unclear thinking , pessimism, worry and anxiety, poor health and tension - and also what psychologists tell us is the use of only about 10% of our mental potential. The answer then is to find an effective way of resting and enlivening the nervous system. WHAT TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION IS TM is a simple, natural way of gaining deep relaxation. It is not a religion, philosophy or belief, nor does it involve hypnosis, autosuggestion or trance-states. During meditation the body is more relaxed than ever in the deepest sleep and the mind is restful but awake. After meditation a person feels calmer and revitalized, more relaxed and yet, at the same time, more energetic and lively. TM is a natural , spontaneous technique which allows each individual to expand his conscious mind and improve all aspects of life. WHAT TM INVOLVES The practice of TM requires that one sits, with closed eyes, for a period of 20 minutes twice a day. In this state finer levels of thought are experienced until the mind transcends even the finest level and arrives at the very source of thought. Because of the mind's natural tendency to move in the directi

Enlightened Buddha Prayer - 0 views

  • Enlightened Buddha Prayer Beyond the beliefs of any one religion, there is the truth of the human spirit. Beyond the power of nations, there is the power of the human heart. Beyond the ordinary mind, the power of wisdom, love, and healing energy are at work in the universe. When we find peace within our hearts, we contact these universal powers. This is our only hope. Our only hope is to find peace within our hearts. Is finding peace within our hearts an illusion? Is finding peace within our hearts possible? If finding peace within our hearts is not an illusion, then how is it possible to find peace within our hearts?

Six Steps to Supersleep 19 June 2007 None of us can live without it. We need it every day. And most of us are deficient in it. It's not a vitamin or a mineral - it's sleep. An alarming 47 per cent of people have difficulty falling to sleep or staying asleep throughout the night, but many more are simply not getting enough for optimal health. Before the electric light bulb extended our days, most people slept for up to ten hours a night. The figure now hovers around seven and continues to fall. Not only are we sleeping less in the 21st century because we've learnt how to extend our daytime, but we also sleep less to get more done. Yet research clearly shows that it's a rare person who can survive on a great deal less than seven or eight hours' kip a night. One of the great mysteries is why we need sleep at all. Without it, even for a night, the body shows clear signs of stress - mood and concentration go, defences drop, vital nutrients zinc and magnesium levels fall, vitamin C is used up at an alarming rate. Sleep both rejuvenates the body and the mind. During the first three hours of sleep, the body goes into rapid repair mode. This is one of the reasons why, if you are injured or sick, nothing is better than a good night's sleep. The Importance of Dreaming After a couple of hours, we enter the dream state sleep, known as rapid eye movement, or REM, Stage 1. REM sleep normally occurs 90 minutes after the onset of sleep, but if we are sleep deprived it may occur within 30 minutes. Dreaming occurs during REM sleep and most of us have four or more REM periods per night, even though many people have difficulty remembering the dreams that occur in them. As well as providing physical rest, sleep may provide the chance to make a 'back-up tape' of the day's events for our large computer, the brain. While Westerners pay little heed to dreams, one African tribe believe 'real life' is lived in dreams and daytime is the illusion. The Bolivian philo
