ThinkQuest's site "Ancient World" won the Gold in the ThinkQuest Competition for Students. This site, created by students, includes factual information, craft ideas, recipes, and online activities for Ancient Egypt. The "Fact Page" contains information on every aspect of Ancient Egypt and is a great online resource. "Online Activities" is the place for interactive maps, an Egyptian calculator, hieroglyphic name translator, rules for the popular Egyptian board game of "Senet" and much more. Finish off this unit by sharing the recipes. They sound delicious!
GCF Learn Free is an excellent new site for educational resources. This is a very innovative site that offers users over 750 online interactive lessons and over 250 videos. These lessons are fun to do and a user can customize how they want to learn a give topic.
Infogram is an amazing new web tool for creating infographics quickly and easily. The tool is very simple to use and offers a whole host of unique WYSIWYG editing options from dragging content around to in-tool data table formatting. This is sure to be a popular site as inforgraphics continue to grow in popularity. The site is free, robust, and going to be getting some more customized features and more templates soon. Looks like a great place for teachers and students to play with the art of visual explanation.
Generic looking site, but make an account and will create screen shot/podcast videos. Can download as mp4 or provide a link to personal site (but has size limits). 30 minutes of recording available. You can also download and place video on another host like Vimeo.
SOL: Measurement - Meet Jack the builder. He lives in a country that only uses the Metric System. Can your students help Jack? He gets terribly confused with measuring. Begin with a discussion on the metric "Unit of Measurement" to help students understand the terminology. When this is complete, students help Jack read the actual measurements in the activity. Be careful though, this site uses the French language spelling since it is from Canada.
