ThinkQuest's site "Ancient World" won the Gold in the ThinkQuest Competition for Students. This site, created by students, includes factual information, craft ideas, recipes, and online activities for Ancient Egypt. The "Fact Page" contains information on every aspect of Ancient Egypt and is a great online resource. "Online Activities" is the place for interactive maps, an Egyptian calculator, hieroglyphic name translator, rules for the popular Egyptian board game of "Senet" and much more. Finish off this unit by sharing the recipes. They sound delicious!
Love the concept of inteleaving. I think it really supports guide-on-the-side/inquiry and letting the students find the info on their own, first:
"When students can't tell in advance what kind of knowledge or problem-solving strategy will be required to answer a question, their brains have to work harder to come up with the solution, and the result is that students learn the material more thoroughly."
