Three international organizations - the New Media Consortium, the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) - collaborate on identifying technology experts and other aspects of the research, and this year, for the first time, each organization is planning a significant event related to the new report for each of their audiences. The Horizon Report K-12 edition, issued annually since 2009, has identified and described emerging technologies that are having a significant impact on K-12 education, re-iterating the diversity of influences in the learning spaces of our schools. For school librarians the report directs attention simultaneously to both information use and learning and highlights the fact that 21st century technologies are unlikely to be empowering unless they are in the hands of an informed learner.

Infogram is an amazing new web tool for creating infographics quickly and easily. The tool is very simple to use and offers a whole host of unique WYSIWYG editing options from dragging content around to in-tool data table formatting. This is sure to be a popular site as inforgraphics continue to grow in popularity. The site is free, robust, and going to be getting some more customized features and more templates soon. Looks like a great place for teachers and students to play with the art of visual explanation.

Teacher Direct is designed to establish a more direct line of communication with classroom teachers and educators. The goal of Teacher Direct is to provide a way to share new instructional resources created by VDOE staff as well as make teachers aware of professional development and grant opportunities, and other information of special interest to teachers and their students.

Social Science 2.1, 2.4 ThinkQuest's site "Ancient World" won the Gold in the ThinkQuest Competition for Students.  This site, created by students, includes factual information, craft ideas, recipes, and online activities for Ancient Egypt.  The "Fact Page" contains information on every aspect of Ancient Egypt and is a great online resource.  "Online Activities" is the place for interactive maps, an Egyptian calculator, hieroglyphic name translator, rules for the popular Egyptian board game of "Senet" and much more.   Finish off this unit by sharing the recipes.  They sound delicious!

This is a site for teachers and students that allows them to create a digital scrapbook which promotes creativity, self-expression, and imagination.

This seems like an easy assessment resource that might be good to use w/class sets of iPads.  Teachers can set up their answer sheet on the website, and then students enter a code and take the test on the iPad.  They can even use a work space to solve problems if needed.  

GCF Learn Free is an excellent new site for educational resources. This is a very innovative site that offers users over 750 online interactive lessons and over 250 videos. These lessons are fun to do and a user can customize how they want to learn a give topic.

Generic looking site, but make an account and will create screen shot/podcast videos. Can download as mp4 or provide a link to personal site (but has size limits). 30 minutes of recording available. You can also download and place video on another host like Vimeo.

Epic-ed supports individuals, schools, and districts who are planning for and implementing ubiquitous computing environments.

Virtual base ten blocks; Students are given a target number and drag base 10 blocks onto the paper to represent that number. As students add blocks, a counter at the bottom of the page shows how many blocks are currently on the paper. This is a great way for students to digitally practice place value, counting by hundreds, tens and ones.

This site is an IBM research project whose goal is to make data analysis easy for people to create, edit, share, and discuss information visualizations. Once users create an account, they can upload data, create visualizations and discuss the data with others

BLOCKED at HCPS - Grrrrrr.... You go to this link, add a You Tube link, and it creates a NEW link that is "safe" to view (removes adds and just shows video). Would love to see this unblocked so teachers can have a "safe" way to show videos we cannot convert!!
