Watch Out TED Talks: Here Comes A New Generation | MindShift - 0 views

  •
TED's educational arm is launching TED-Ed Clubs, an effort to support students who research, write and present and record their own ideas in a TED talk format. "The goal is to stimulate and celebrate the best ideas of students around the world," said TED-Ed Director Logan Smalley. TED-Ed piloted the project with 100 schools, focusing mostly on middle and high school aged students. Most of the pilot schools started with TED-Ed clubs held during lunch or after school, but some teachers incorporated materials into the classroom. TED-Ed also offers free guiding materials for 13 club meetings, taking students through the step-by-step process of creating a TED talk.

TED-Ed Video with quiz: "It can be hard sometimes, when speaking, to remember all of the grammatical rules that guide us when we're writing. Calude dives into the age-old argument between linguistic prescriptivists and descriptivists - who have two very different opinions on the matter."

What Students Can Learn from Giving TEDx Talks | MindShift - 2 views

"Two years ago, Griffith was one of 10 students at the Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School, in New Jersey, to be selected for the school's first TEDx program. Modelled on the popular TED talks, TEDx allows community organizations, towns and schools to put on their own version of a TED talk, featuring local experts, authorities or even teenagers, rather than nationally recognized figures. More than 10,000 TEDx events have been held around the world since the program was launched in 2009, including those put on by schools like the one in Summit. To be recognized as an official TEDx event, organizers need to apply online for licensing and agree to TED's detailed set of by-laws. What's critical to the success of a youth-run TEDx program is the active participation of a teacher, says Salome Heusel, Deputy Director of TEDx."

WHRHS TEDx: Student Empowerment at Watchung Hills - News - TAPinto - 0 views

  •
"Student empowerment was not just on the agenda, it was the agenda Monday night, June 19, at "TEDxYouth@WHRHS, an independently organized TED event," at Watchung Hills Regional High School (WHRHS). The TEDx event, which was the brainchild of 2017 WHRHS graduate Vineet Parikh, championed student empowerment, innovation and inspiration. It was he who first proposed holding such an event at WHRHS. Back in October 2015, Parikh was one of the student-members of the WHRHS team that helped shape the school's "2015-2020 Strategic Plan, A Warrior Vision." In addition to contributing to the long range strategic plans, the TEDx event at WHRHS was also an example of one of those long range plans being implemented. Youth@WHRHS was an example of immediate discussions about how student inspiration, innovation, and empowerment can be turned intoreal, everyday improvements for Watchung Hills Regional High School (WHRHS). "
