This article gives a possible explanation to why there is an opportunity gap. It states that students are aware if teacher expect them to succeed or not. If teacher do not expect some students to succeed, then they are not challenged to try in school.

This article says that a possible reason to why there is an opportunity gap is because of the difference in social classes. Some people believe that since higher taxes are being paid, there are more whites, and more businesses on the West End, the  school located there are getting more attention. Although, Pat Russo confirmed that the African American students in the West End still create the gap within the school.
