    I learned several things after reading this article. One important thing I learned was that when Lincoln signed Emancipation Proclamation in , it did not directly stop slavery. It gave the slaves and abolishers a reason to fight, rather than aimless battle simply because they didn't like how they were treated. Also, it was subtly stated in the article that Virginia split into West Virginia and Virginia because of the Civil War. I had always wondered why Virginia split.
