$1.8bn Agua Caliente Solar farm is a 290MW photovoltaic (PV) power project located in the east Yuma County of Arizona, US. It is owned by NRG Energy and MidAmerican Energy Holdings and is currently the world's biggest photovoltaic solar power plant.

Racing against other companies around the globe, International Battery isn the front lines of an effort to build smaller, lighter, more powerful batteries that could help transform the American energy economy by replacing gasoline in cars and making windmills and solar cells easier to integrate into the power grid.

The Solar Impulse is the brain child of Bertrand Piccard, a Swiss adventurer and environmentalist, who launched the project back in 2003 with the aim of promoting the use of renewable energy sources. Now, in 2009, he is closing in on that dream. His plane has a 200-foot wingspan which is lined with 12,000 photovoltaic solar cells that will draw energy from the sun to power its four engines.

Microbial Powered electrical generation

SAIL Venture Partners said that its portfolio company Xtreme Power, a provider of Dynamic Power Resources (DPRs), and Xcel Energy have formed a partnership to deploy a 1MW system to collect operational data on the integration of energy storage and solar energy systems in US.

The project uses an improved technology to extract energy from rock and fluids in the Earth's crust more efficiently. The technology, referred to as a supercritical binary geothermal cycle, is estimated to be more efficient than traditional geothermal binary systems, allowing lower-temperature geothermal resources to be used for power generation. Unlike coal-fired and natural gas-fired power generation plants, geothermal plants produce virtually no greenhouse gas emissions.
