Inspired by the complex ecosystems created by the mangrove tree, the “Mangal City” by Chimera design team is a series of futuristic spiraling skyscrapers for London, which defines an urban ecosystem while supporting housing and cultural programs. Based on biomimicry and flexibility, the skyscraper comprises modular pod capsules which keep shifting to adapt to environmental and contextual conditions, creating an “urban ecological system.” Presenting spiraling plant growth patterns and the interaction of natural ecosystems, the Mangal City also harnesses biomimetic principles from a variety of sources, thanks to the twisting latticed frame.
