The state of Indiana is home to thousands of abandoned or neglected pioneer cemeteries, the oldest of which now approach 200 years. The goal of this project is to identify, protect, restore and preserve as many of these cemeteries as possible. This project was founded on the belief that we owe our pioneer ancestors a better monument than a forgotten grave amid bramble and thicket.
Welcome from the IAJGS -- the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies. The IAJGS International Jewish Cemetery Project mission is to catalogue every Jewish burial site throughout the world.
"The aim of The War Graves Photographic Project is to photograph every war grave, individual memorial, MoD grave, and family memorial of serving military personnel from WWI to the present day and make these available within a searchable database.
Now working as a joint venture with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, this will enable families, scholars and researchers to obtain, via the CWGC or TWGPP websites, a copy of the photograph of a grave or memorial which for many is impossible to visit due to the location."
The cemeteries of Gallia County were censused between 1976 and 1983 by a group of volunteers chaired by Mary James. At that time Mary consulted many resources which led to the discovery of over 500 cemeteries in Gallia County. The Ohio Genealogical Society cemetery project chair has told us that so far Gallia County has reported more cemeteries than any other county in Ohio .
