Even the Knights' opening round clash with Penrith was marked by injuries to key players. Fullback Darius Boyd was struck down with a hamstring injury after 15 minutes and remaining playmakers Kurt Gidley and Tyrone Roberts were both forced from the field with concussion. The off-field troubles have eased (without disappearing completely) and it is heartening to see McKinnon's improvement.
