Are you looking for foreign languages of the world that are in danger of extinction? UNESCO has done an extensive job of mapping and categorizing the world's languages with the aim of cultural preservation.

Here is a link to the chapter in the 2009 Horizon report about Geolocation. They predict that in 2-3 years this will be fully mature. "Applications for research and learning that are quick and inexpensive but still very effective are beginning to emerge as the difficulty of capturing and using geolocative data decreases."
