Speaking in Tongues as we view it today in Christian churches is really a relatively new phenomenon dating back to the early 1900s.

How come this? And actually is what we are seeing today exactly the same surprise that motivated Jesus disciples at Pentecost?

The disciples got the ability to talk in the languages of the encompassing nations, so that they could preach the gospel in the native tongue of those they met. If what we see in churches today may be the same gift, why was it absent from the church for over 1800 years?

Through the Bible it is observed that God gave His people presents of the soul to empower them to complete what was required for a particular function at a particular time.

It's easy to see why God found it necessary to give the gift of Speaking in Tongues to the first Church. How else could uneducated men have been able to spread the gospel? The question is then, why could the present of Speaking in Tongues have now been reintroduced to the church after this kind of long absence. What possible function does it serve now that the church is established in almost every corner of the planet?

We need to note also that after the gift of tongues was presented with, with the objective of evangelising, they understood what they were saying. 1 Corinthians 14:15-16 What's after that it? I will pray with the spirit, and I'll pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I'll sing with the understanding also. Click here clicky to research the meaning behind it. Else when you'll bless with the character, how shall he that occupieth the area of the unlearned say Amen at your offering of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what you sayest?

Is what we are viewing in churches today the authentic gift, or has Satan somehow had the oppertunity to infiltrate the Christian world and deceive them with a replica of one of Gods gifts for their own purposes?

The Bible warns us that in the end times you will see a massive outpouring of bogus miracles, signs and wonders that would fool much of the Christian world. Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to attract, if it were feasible, even the elect.

Most Christians are completely oblivious to the fact that speaking in tongues can also be used in many non-christian religions. It is practiced in African traditions and in voo doo and occult religions. Separate studies have found that there's no difference in tongues between Christians and the followers of non-Christian (pagan) religions.

One of the most important characteristics of the Holy Spirit is he will guide us into truth. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he'll make suggestions into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself;. Truth is the understanding of the true and full gospel message that our sins may be understood through the blood of our saviour Jesus. The concept that we're saved by grace and not works, and that those who are saved will be obedient to the will of the Father and follow His rules, just as Jesus also told. John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

The fact that several churches who are practicing speaking in tongues are also training that we no longer have to observe the commandments, which directly contradicts what Jesus taught when He said Mathew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from regulations, till all be satisfied should make us step right back and take a second look at whether this trend being used within our churches is of God or from another source.

All Bible references are from the King James Version.
