Welcome to the Durham County Record Office website, where you can find out about the range of records we have available. We are responsible for collecting and preserving documents relating to the history of the county. To find out about all the documents we hold you can search the DRO Database which gives you access to the catalogues of all the documents we hold and the opportunity to view about 30,000 of our photographs, including the Durham Light Infantry photographs digitised during the Image of the Soldier project. Cumbria Archive Service has Record Offices in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal and Whitehaven and can help you discover the answers to many of your questions! It cares for parish registers, other church records, wills, electoral registers, maps and plans, poor law records, title deeds, and photographs. The archives of many families, businesses, local authorities, solicitors, societies and schools are also deposited in its Record Offices.

If you are interested in London or Londoners, LMA is the place to explore!

This site enables you to check whether or not there are any memorial inscriptions which are relevant to your researches. If there are none, then you pay nothing. If you find what you want, then you can download, and print out if you wish, not only the inscriptions themselves, but also a brief description of the memorial, a photograph of the church or chapel, a plan of the burial ground, and usually some historical information as well. For this, you pay a fee of between £4 and £7, depending on how much information you choose to retrieve from what is available.
