Gaia's New Homepage is Coming Soon! | Gaia Online - 0 views

  • We had a few major goals with this redesign: Less advertising, less clutter and more interesting content. The main "What's Hot" section will show you new items, events and random fun stuff, so you won't have to pass your weary eyes over a million little banners to find out what's up. More community/member content. The new "Spotlight" section will show you interesting new stuff and goings-on around the site, and there's a "Featured" spot for cool member avatars, aquariums, or whatever else deserves to be seen. Separate sections for sponsored announcements vs. Gaia announcements. Everybody wins-- sponsored messages get their own place to shine, and Gaia announcements will be easier to find. More flexibility. The new page will let us show different stuff to new members (i.e. basic info about core site features) than we would show to experienced Gaians-- this ought to help newbies get acquainted with the site more easily, which is good news for everyone wink We hope you'll find it useful, attractive, friendly, honorable, and many other fine adjectives. Come back soon to check it out!

Earth Hour 2009 - Keep this thread alive! | Gaia Online - 0 views

  • BIG BOLD NOTE: Don't post if you have nothing nice to say or if you want to debate me on this. It's pointless. For those of you saying it won't help, when Sydney turned all of its lights off, the energy conserved was equivalent to taking 20,000+ cars off the highway. So even if you don't believe in global warming, at least do it to conserve energy. It could also be good for the economy. You and/or your parents (for those of you still living with them) could save money on the electric bill. Companies could save money. People spend way too much on energy and this could just help it. Energy costs are going up and if people help conserve it, demand could go down thus causing prices to go down. THIS IS NOT A DEBATE THREAD. If you don't agree with it, go to Extended Discussion and freak out about it there. I realize I may have gotten a little upset when I noticed more people were against it at first than for it, but I've cooled down now. If you want to debate about this, go somewhere else. Not here.
