pop-up museums run a corporations (i.e., *not* by a museum, per se)

The Hammer Museum won a Goldhirsh Foundation LA2050 prize for its ideas about how to redevelop nearby Westwood Village. Their pop-up called Arts ReStore includes 18 different vendors spread out in various temporarily re-claimed storefronts. Rock on, Hammer Museum!

THE HERITAGE COUNCIL is hosting workshop to teach communities how to create a pop-up museum in vacant spaces to inject life back into their towns and draw in the tourists.

"I am bothered by the "big box" science centers, $300 million dollar projects seem unnecessary.  You could build 100 smaller science centers for the same $300M budget.  My thinking behind Science Pop (science center in a box), has grown out of a need for community based science centers."

Bringing the museum concept to a community through their library. Not a new idea, but a good writeup.

Alternative money systems... I could see this working in museums that don't rely on admission revenue.  

I saw this story--- thought there were some interesting possible lessons! There are major efforts in the alt currency space-- so I'd encourage you to keep thinking this one through... Ripe .. .

Acres of unused space in conventional office buildings may be transformed into hotel rooms, classrooms, theaters or retail uses, architects and urban planners say.   And museums? Exhibition spaces? Pop-up?
