Bentley Announces Trial Program for Generative Design - 0 views

What Experts Are Saying "KPF has been using GenerativeComponents for some time and it forms a key component in the armory of the KPF Computational Geometry Group. Several of our most advanced projects employ GenerativeComponents as a tool for exploring thousands of options as well as the complex geometry to be used in final construction, all ultimately benefiting our clients. The nature of GenerativeComponents as a MicroStation extension means that, as a matter of course, our advanced designs can be interchanged with an extraordinary variety of software." - Lars Hesselgren, Kohn Pederson Fox "At Arup, we believe firmly in the principle of integrated design and integrated approaches to design - it's the only way to design complex buildings well. That's why we use GenerativeComponents. And we are not alone. We are starting to see young people coming through the system doing things we could only have dreamed about a few years ago." - J Parrish, Arup Sport "Simplicity seeds complexity. But in the search for form we need to add reference to the representation to articulate the result. GenerativeComponents enables us to find, explore, and regulate forms more rapidly, and to transmit these forms to fabrication more economically." - Hugh Whitehead, Foster + Partners "Grimshaw's offices all share a common DNA. We are a design-driven office, and all projects are informed by the specific location, program, and environmental forces. We employ GenerativeComponents to take in and embed the multitude of inputs and structure them using this common DNA, thus enabling us to rapidly explore a variety of environmentally appropriate solutions for each design project." - Shane Burger, Grimshaw Architects "Using GenerativeComponents, we can accelerate our iteration through design options and, in parallel, assess all concepts and dismiss those that would be uneconomic to construct. As a result, we get to spend more time fine-tuning the best solution.â

2012's Green Urban Policy - 0 views

  •
With the release of the federal government's newest Urban Policy Forum the green building community will feel a new found sense of confidence in the future plans for urban development in Australia. Planning for a sustainable urban community has come as a priority in the new policy, which has been influenced by a wide range of experts across different industry sectors including Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Romily Madew. Upon his latest announcement, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese has assured the future planning processes will come as a culminated effort between the green building sector, government and the community in what has been labeled as an 'ideas generator'.

The future of our cities - 1 views

  •
It's easy to forget that urban design is not a new concept. Ancient examples of carefully-planned and designed cities exist in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, and are particularly well-known within classical Chinese, Roman and Greek cultures. The pioneer of urban planning, Hippodamus of Miletus, planned ancient cities of Rhodes, Miletus and the harbour-town Piraeus at Athens as early as the fifth century BC.  In England, many ninth century towns were designed on a grid plan, and by the twelfth century, urbanisation was seen as a means of stimulating economic growth and generating revenue throughout Western Europe. One of the earliest international contributions made by Australia to urban planning theory and practice sprang from the international competition held between 1911 and 1912 to design Australia's new federal capital, Canberra.

  • UHPC (Ultra High Performance Concrete) is a concrete with an extreme dense micro-structure generated by powder-like silica sand. The material density is responsible for a compression strength that is almost comparable to steel and a surface quality that reflecting perfectly the material used as mould. Equipped with steel fibres as a part of the aggregate the self-compressing material can be disburdened from traditional rebars while providing high tensile strength. www.gtecz.com Wiring is an open source programming environment and electronics i/o board for exploring the electronic arts, tangible media. It is developed by Hernando Barragan and build on Processing. www.wiring.org.co

Heritage buildings keep alive our roots, giving the present generations a sense of pride and hope for a grounded future...
