Recently, Residence caught up with a few East End designers-husband-and-wife team Jennifer Mabley and Austin Handler of Mabley Handler Interior Design in Water Mill, and Sag Harbor-based Betsy Nichol of E.N. Interiors-to learn the do's and don'ts behind the definitive children's bedroom.

Some people think of wardrobes as purely functional pieces of furniture, but that doesn't mean they can't be fashionable as well. It's no surprise that computers have affected all of our daily lives in the way we communicate, handle our finances, do homework, keep up with daily events, and much, much more. While most of us have adapted to the computer age, we haven't been as quick to adapt our furnishings to accommodate this new focal point in our homes. Nightstands are not socks, and they don't necessarily have to match each other. You can personalize your bedroom to match the personalities of you and your partner by using different nightstands on each side of the bed. "Don't put a big piece of furniture in a small room." Putting a large cabinet in a small room can create the illusion that it is a built-in part of the architecture.
