Fred--I heard this on Morning Edition today, perhaps you did too? A book I'll probably get and read at some point--sounds quite interesting, in novel form. I was thinking that you could write up something like this about Floyd perhaps? Or SW VA or the Appalachian spine that you know so well . . . .
No I didn't hear this, but if I had been sort of listening I would have perked up hearing SQUIM (I knew that one bc you mentioned it in your call a couple of weeks back, and I couldn't find anything searching on Squim. Now I know why.
Fred--one more that I remembered tonight: The Hoh Rainforest--it's pronounced like the garden tool, hoe. The north fork is the main one where the ranger station is located--it's a beautiful hike into the rain forest. Just go far enough in--a couple miles if you can. The south fork is beautiful too, but it is a little more remote--no ranger station at the start, etc. etc. But still just as spectacular--some would say moreso. I like 'em both though. Enjoy!
