Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman Director) visited the Bat Zone at Cranbrook Institute of Science. He and his family were introduced to the amazing array of animals and educated about the importance of bats and need for conservation action.

I was thinking maybe do a bat unit the week of Halloween, sort of like how we talk about turtles. That week's objective is main idea in informational text.

I know we all know this one, but she's changing it up this year! Books are not leveled by age, you pick the book you think fits best. The author study is Peter H. Reynolds, which could be fun too. Not sure I want to purchase 6 of his expensive books! But it might lend nicely to dot day, or kick it off!

Explore Lessons | LearnZillion - 1 views

  •
Explore math video lessons from grades 3-9. Search by Common Core domain, topic, or grade. Includes Additional Practice and Director's Commentary videos. It looks like maybe it could be used in a 'flip' sort of way.

I think this may be a way to share videos for students on our blogs, and not have the district block them!

The Nerdy Teacher: The Epic Evernote Experiment - 0 views

  •
This is an interesting idea. The problem is it seems like kids would need a premium account, that won't work. It looks like I can share without a premium account from the desk top version...

This is one part of the Journey North project. Children send and receive a handmade butterfly from a child in Mexico! It's pretty detailed, lots to do.

This would probably be a good one to go with our 2nd story - Pepita Talks Twice. The new stuff for 2012-2013 isn't posted yet, but it looks like it starts in September maybe?
