Making Matters! How the Maker Movement Is Transforming Education - WeAreTeachers - 0 views

  •
"The Maker Movement, a technological and creative learning revolution underway around the globe, has exciting and vast implications for the world of education. New tools and technology, such as 3D printing, robotics, microprocessors, wearable computing, e-textiles, "smart" materials, and programming languages are being invented at an unprecedented pace. The Maker Movement creates affordable or even free versions of these inventions, while sharing tools and ideas online to create a vibrant, collaborative community of global problem-solvers. Fortunately for teachers, the Maker Movement overlaps with the natural inclinations of children and the power of learning by doing. By embracing the lessons of the Maker Movement, educators can revamp the best student-centered teaching practices to engage learners of all ages."

Mystery, Labs, and Engineering Challenges - Mosa Mack Science - 0 views

  •
Mosa Mack Science is devoted to helping you move towards NGSS inquiry-based instruction with reliable, entertaining, and rigorous resources. What is Mosa Mack Science? Mosa Mack Science is a library of NGSS-aligned, inquiry units containing three lessons: The Solve: An animated science mystery and vocabulary manipulative The Make: A hands-on lab The Engineer: An engineering challenge that allows students to apply what they've learned to solve real world scenarios. The lessons focus on teacher support and include assessment rubrics, graphic organizers for students and prepared PowerPoint presentations. Where did Mosa Mack Science come from? Mosa Mack Science was born out of one teacher's frustration with the existing resources for middle school science educators. While teaching science in New York City, founder Lissa Johnson realized that the online resources were ineffective: they lectured her students and failed to make science relevant. Johnson wanted to fix this problem and created Mosa Mack Science to inspire a new generation of scientists. The Mosa Mack team now includes writers from This American Life, artists from Nickelodeon and expert curriculum creators out of the Stanford Scale program. Through this team, Mosa Mack Science breathes life into inquiry science.

How to Give Your Students Better Feedback in Less Time - 1 views

  •
"While faculty toil over getting that perfect lecture, the variation in learning outcomes from different lectures is negligible. So what did matter? Feedback. Feedback on student work has been consistently shown to be among the biggest influences on student achievement. Yet faculty usually give little thought to how they provide feedback to their students. Many go through a student's work, making margin comments such as "vague" or "grammar" or "needs synthesis.""

"Explore the World with Geography Map Games" It's so important to know the world we live in. But it's so huge! There are so many countries, cities, flags, rivers, seas and more than 7 billions of people. Do everyone know all countries of the world? Probably not :) Some people even don't know neighboring countries. And I understand why. Sometimes learning is too complicated or a geography teacher is too boring at school :) But let's change it, let's make geography interesting. That's why playGeography.com was created. We're a group of enthusiasts who wants to help you discover the world. It's so interesting, there're so many places you'll want to visit, there're so many countries probably you even didn't hear of. At the time of writing, there were 195 countries. How many can you name?

GameOn.World - Online Trivia Game - 0 views

  •
Starting a game is fast, easy, and doesn't require registration! This is the first draft (beta 1.0) of our website which we hope will be a fun, communal way to learn geography and other interesting trivia. The site was started by Jeff Borland, a teacher in Portland, Maine and one of his former students, Orkhan Nadirli. We believe that students need to know much more about the world and we thought that this game format would be a wonderful way to do that. In the coming months we hope to add lots of new features (like the ability to create your own trivia sets), so keep checking back.
