    The Florida Historical Quarterly, the academic journal of the Florida Historical Society, promotes scholarly research and appreciation for the peoples, places, themes, and diversity of Florida's past. The Society is the oldest cultural institution in the state, tracing its origins to 1856. The Quarterly has served to expand understanding of Florida's historical development and offers a broad spectrum of articles. Published four times annually, the Quarterly continues the tradition of high quality scholarly articles established and maintained by the Society. The Quarterly has been a central component of the mission of the Florida Historical Society to promote scholarly research and publication. Students, researchers, and casual readers may use the collection liberally, although reproduction of materials for use outside of classrooms must be approved by the Society.

  • Many of the microfilmed archival documents at the Center for Historic Research have been translated and entered into a database on AREV software, the size of which is now 14.5 million bytes. This database holds 3,814 documents, 4,978 biographical files and 3,230 culture files. The Center aided in the acquisition of the McAllister and Samuel Proctor book collections of works on Latin American and Florida history and is presently involved in the acquisition of the Stetson Collection, the Spanish document collection from the Archives of the Indies in Spain.   • The St. Augustine Historical Society Research Library preserves the finest collections of printed, microfilmed, manuscript, digital, and pictorial materials relating to Florida history in a non-governmental repository. Our collections are of national importance owing to the many unique resources that we offer.
  • Library hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and the third Saturday of the month, 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

    Best parking recommendation is to park free at the Oldest House and walk the four blocks to the library.  Be sure to validate your parking at the library.
