Letter writing seems to be a lost art, but it is still a standard. I personally love writing letters of appreciation, love, or simply just because as often as I can! To teach letter writing can be monotonous for the students of a technology-age. I hope this activity helps!
Within the first few months of school, once routines start working, begin a letter writing unit. After explaining all of the parts of a formal letter have the students write a letter to their future self. Have them describe what they are good at now, physical appearance, what they are struggling with (in school or other), their favorite things, and anything else they want themselves to know. Store these letters until the end of the school year. Then, give each student his or her letter to himself. It is fascinating for teachers to see how students change every year, but with this activity students can see how they have grown and changed since the beginning of the year.
