Welcome to Working with Student Teams, a short online module designed to help you work more efficiently with student teams within your classes.

WOVE is an acronym that stands for "written, oral, visual, and electronic" communication. More commonly referred to as "multimodal communication," this pedagogy serves as the basis for ISUComm's efforts toward student-centered, contemporary curriculum reform. In the new foundation courses that ISUComm has developed, ISUComm is building upon an integrated approach to writing instruction that has been underway at ISU for some time. Almost all composition classes use electronic classrooms; all teach students how to engage in small group discussions and oral critiques with peers; many sections of these courses incorporate brief oral presentations; and many of these classes now address some design aspects of written texts, such as headings and page layout. By bringing WOVE pedagogy into their classrooms, teachers provide all students with the kind of communication instruction that prepares them to communicate with expertise in multiple settings and with multiple media.

Like the facilitator, the online student possesses unique qualities. The online students of today consist primarily of working people who are trying to better their opportunities. This however is changing, as more and more young and older people become aware of the online model.

Create and manage student and teacher blogs, quickly customize designs, and include videos, photos, and podcasts.

Engage students in and out of class. Instructors and students can post ideas, questions, vote, and reply in a microdiscussion with their laptops, smart phones, or cell phones.

Many experts on student-centered online learning agree that the discussion board is the place where some of the most important learning can happen. But instructors,must find ways to support students in "driving" that learning.

Implementing the principles of universal design in online learning means anticipating the diversity of students that may enroll in your course and planning accordingly. These ten key elements will greatly enhance the accessibility and usability of your course for students with and without disabilities. Determine what elements and content you will include in your course.
