The protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have spread across the nation in just over a week. Last week, when the citizenship law was cleared by the President, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced nationwide NRC. Now, the BJP says otherwise.

Since the process of NRC started, residents of Assam have been rushing to prove they are Indian citizens. After the first draft was published in July last year, authorities released an Additional Draft Exclusion List. However, this list turned tragic for a family as their daughter committed suicide.
