The article discusses the growing importance of GIS in teaching as well as its growing importance in organizations and in gaining a better understanding of world issues. GIS allows for a better understanding of how location influences the characteristics and the relationships that exist, and the whole concept is referred to as geographic analysis. GIS creates visual representations of social, political, economic and environmental issues that exist in the world and provide for a more insightful perception of the topic or issue at hand. Due to the fact that GIS is becoming of more significance in today's day and age, it's a possibility that GIS will be incorporated into the school curriculum - if not at the elementary level, then at the secondary level. There is now a day, November 16, designated to GIS and known as GIS day, which further proves its growing importance. In my opinion, the success of GIS will eventually make its way down to the curriculum and possibly be the new approach to studying geography. I do believe that GIS will be quite successful if implemented into the elementary level because it provides a holistic approach to looking at something.
