This article provides suggestions on developing performance assessments and rubrics. The suggestions are divided into five categories: 1) writing goals and objectives 2) Developing performance assessments 3) developing scoring rubrics 4) administrating performance assessment 5) Scoring, interpreting and using results. These suggestions are made for formal activities for example, summative assessments in which the students are aware they are being evaluated. However, these suggestions can still be applied to any form of assessment whether it is assessment for, assessment as or assessment of learning. As demonstrated in class last week developing rubrics can be a difficult task. This article is beneficial as it provides suggestion for developing rubrics as well as how to interpret the results. A good rubric should allow for students and parents to understand how the final grade is linked to the scoring criteria. Further, the scoring rubric should be clearly aligned with the requirements of the task and the stated goals and objectives. This article also provides an extensive list of additional resources teachers can consult when developing rubrics. This article is a great resource for teacher education candidates who are just learning to develop rubrics as well as a guide teachers can use. It provides starting place for understanding the use and implementation of assessment tools.
