If you know decir in the preterite, then you'll have no problema with traer, conducir and traducir because they follow the same "j" pattern.
  • traer (to bring), traducir (to translate) and conducir (to drive).
  • They are all lumped together because they follow similar patterns and are similar to decir in the preterite.

I highlighted vocabulary that we need to know and I forgot. Hacer los quehaceres - to do chores; hacer caso - to pay attention. Remember, there are lots of hacer expressions like hacer la maleta and hacer un viaje.
    • Rita Favata

Hacer is part of the "i" group, and its new stem is hic-, except in the él, ella, usted acer iform where it becomes hizo (that's to preseve the sound of the infinitive hacer).
  • This video lesson covers yet another verb irregular in the preterite: hacer (to do, make).

Preterite - Irregulars - Saber | Sr Jordan's Spanish Videos - 0 views

  • Something about saber though is that like a few other verbs, it changes meaning slightly in the preterite. We’ll go over more on this later but it although you might think it translates to ‘knew’, it actually means ‘found out, learned’.
    • Rita Favata

Señor Jordan shows one wacky verb here. Once you get that saber's new stem is sup- and you know the irregular endings: e, iste, o, imos, ieron, you'll be cool! And, guess what? No accents!!!!! oh, one more thing, sabger changes its meaning in the preterite to "found out, learned." I told you it was whacky :)

  • Ir (to go) and ser (to be) are both conjugated the same way in the preterite.
    • Rita Favata

Señor Jordan's video on ser and ir in the preterite was very helpful. It gets a little confusing because they both have the same forms so you have to look for contextual clues to determine which verb meaning is intended.
  • For a summary on the preterite, check out the preterite conjugation sheet!

I liked this site but you have to type your answer so fast or you get marked wrong. this isn't so easy when you have add accents. Don't give up if you get frustrated, you'll get better plus it shows you the correct answer immediately after, so you learn the form anyway :)
