This was a very interesting and actually decently fun read about a commonly talked about idea of whether or not social media, I.e. Facebook, Twitter, Txt messaging and even email is going to destroy the art of writing all together, turning the world into impotent humans with no communication skills. Okay so I am obviously exaggerating a little bit but I just cannot help to speak in hyperbole when thinking about the fact that others think this way. If anything social media is forcing us to write more than we ever would have before, which is a point this article and I agree upon. But the article does provide a fairly unbiased position on the problem and for that, I was glad to have chosen it, it caused me think about both sides of the coin, thus further supporting my position on the matter.
Looking for quality in student writing, Six traits of individual voice - 2 views

I chose this article because I was still feeling rather intrigued by the chapter in Concepts in Composition about voice and style, and was very curious as to how teachers/professors of writing implement specific exercises to focus and improve on this as a skill in a young writers arsenal. What I found most interesting about this article was of how overt some of it's parallels are to the two forms of voice spoken about in chapter 7 of CIC. Traits 5 and 6 are nearly exact examples of authentic and role playing voices, and the author stresses that both are of extreme importance. The author claims that gaining your own personal voice, a voice that will set you apart from other writers, one that will stand out as yours amongst the crowd of others is a necessary skill to hone in order to be a strong writer of voice. But the very next trait is that of understanding the idea of an " appropriate tone for purpose and audience". However the author does a good job of not confusing the two, and simply stating that you wouldn't want to use an improper tone in the wrong situation, I.e. a lighthearted tone in an article about someone getting hurt etc.
Top 10 Tips for Overcoming Writers Block - 0 views

This article was true to its title, which was "Top 10 Tips for Overcoming Writer's Block". It provided a few helpfu tips, a few obvious tips, and a few tips I would classify as unnecessary. The number one tip the article gave was to implement a writing schedule. This is something I really struggle with and I have noticed that the students in my English 30 class struggle with this as well. Setting aside a specific time in which to dedicate yourself to your writing as opposed to just getting around to it should help tremendously. As the article states, you might not have something to say right away, but bring your body to the page at the same time every day will eventually force your mind to focus on writing and thinking creatively at that time.

I chose to post and write a response on this article because it is a perfect example of just how mixed the views, beliefs, ideas etc. are out there about the use of voice and style in different forms of creative writing. This article focused on fiction writing but that has does not change it's view on the matter. I could not believe how perfect this article was on its timing, directly after my last Diigo post which contains an article arguing the EXACT opposite view point about how voice and style differ from each other. The author of this article claims that it is the "style" of the writer that changes with their different works, and their voice is what remains constant. However the article I posted just before this one claimed the opposite, that it is the voice of the writer that will change from piece to piece, and the writers style remains a constant. This is exactly why I am so interested in this question; I am beginning to wonder if I will ever feel 100% one way or the other on the matter....which makes it a perfect topic for inquiry. This article pertains to my workshop class for the same reason as the last one, it speaks on the overal struggle of finding yourself as a writer.
