In John D. McKee's article "How Not to Teach Writing", he assesses his experience in teaching composition and evaluates the ways that the "system" has and/or can fail students. McKee discusses what is usually seen as the teaching of writing, but is really the teaching of "students how to marshal words on paper" (3). McKee has encountered many professors who, with a lack of effort, don't allow their students to really develop their writing and focus on the "first draft as a last draft" sort of method.
McKee talks about what a successful writing composition course could entail and I think that his suggestions are very relevant to what we have discussed in 431. He covers some of the big ideas that we have argued in class and pushes them into a plan of action to be used in the teaching setting.
