6 Can I access my home directory files from off-campus?
Yes, you can.
Your College of Engineering home directory is located on our main server, referenced as "enggfiles.engg.ksu.edu".
You can access your College of Engineering home directory files remotely, using SFTP, by connecting to enggfiles.engg.ksu.edu. "SFTP" stands for Secure File Transfer Protocol. It is not the same as FTP, but rather a newer protocol.
We recommend using winSCP to access your home directory. It is free and can be downloaded from www.winscp.com. Make sure that when you connect, you do not have it set to SCP, which uses the SSH protocol, which is not supported on our server.
This tool is on our college lab computers, and you can download your own copy. You enter the host you want to connect to (enggfiles.engg.ksu.edu) and your login name and password information on that host. Once connected, side-by side windows show files on your local computer and on the remote computer (enggfiles.engg.ksu.edu). Files can be copied between the two computers by drag-and-drop, or by highlighting files in one window and clicking an arrow button to copy them to the directory in the other window.
There are other SFTP tools and "front ends" available, any should work with our server.
