We are living in a digital age where students, myself included, can post, tweet, and update their status about every thought that goes through their heads. Some of those thoughts posted online has landed some kids in hot water. The severities of th incidents vary anywhere from venting about a hall monitor being mean or how a profile that was made as a joke that cost a teacher his job.
This article brings up a good point, should we allow an act of terrorism to force us to give up our own rights. If someone points a gun at someone on the street their first instinct is to protect themselves, so they will do anything. They will give up their hard earned money, their possessions, even their dignity by begging for mercy.
This is more of an international issue. Journalists, bloggers, lawyers, and human rights activists of Azerbaijan are being tortured, stalked, and imprisoned on fabricated charges because they are speaking out against the Aliev regime.
Mothers who are trying to give their children a brighter future are being convicted and in one case sent to jail. As the title states, educational freedom is our new civil rights issue.
