Personal freedoms being taken a little far by the Westboro Baptist Church. The Westboro Baptist Church protest at military funerals while holding up signs that say "God Hates the USA/Thank God for 9/11," "America is Doomed," "Thank God for IEDs" and "God Hates Fags". The U.S. federal court says that this is their freedom of speech right. If they made it illegal than they would have to change the amendment. Should they?

Could you imagine having to put a sign in your yard that stated: "DANGER: REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER LIVES HERE." Juan Garcia made a huge stupid mistake by touching a 14 year old girl. He did his time in prison for it. Should he have to deal with it for the rest of his life? Should they be registered everywhere for everyone to see? Juan's whole life changed because of one mistake. He will pay for it by being embarrassed and always looking over his shoulder.

About 2 percent of the adult population can not vote. Why is this? It is because they are felons. The right to vote should not be taken away from you if you have paid your debt to society. The rules vary from state to state. Is this law right? Shouldn't we all be able to voice our opinion?

Should bullying be a crime? When a girl from Massachusetts killed herself over a bully contoversy arose. She hasn't been the only teen to committ suicide because of bullying. Making someone committ suicide should not be taken lightly. Words are powerful and to a young teenager bullying and torment takes a huge toll on them. So if bullying comes a crime should someone get 6 months, a year, five years?

It has been brought up by college presidents to lower the drinking age. They believe that just because the law is a failure they should automatically change it for teens who want to drink. You can't stop teens from drinking, and even if you lower the age they will still get in wrecks.

Casey Anthony was accused of her daughter's murder. OJ was accused of his wife's murder. Should their trial be on the News or all over the web? Should they have privacy rights while on trial to protect them and their family?

The second amendment can be confusing. Is the right to bear arms only for your house or for your car too? Some states make you have a permit to carry a gun in your vehicle. If it applies to only in the home, why can you have one in the car if you have a permit?

Mississippi tried to pass Initiative 26. This would make abortion and also birth control illegal. It stated that personhood starts at the moment of conception. So, abortion would be murder. This brought up a lot of controversy. Such as if a woman miscarried would that mean she committed murder?

A judge in Mississippi put a lawyer in jail for not saying the pledge of allegiance. The lawyer did, however, stand up when the pledge was being said. Is this taking it to far? I believe it is out of respect to say the pledge. We have freedom of speech, but what about the freedom of silence?

U.S Supreme Court ruled that protest at military funerals was okay, because of the first amendment. Chief Justice John Roberts said that protestors could not be held accountable for the damages sought by the family of a fallen Marine. Speech is powerful. People have rights, but often they take it too far.

The government threatened to take the military's pay away. They believed it would give them more money for budget cost. Why would the government even think about passing this bill while we were at war? Luckily, the bill was never passed, but it makes you think twice about what politics really care about.
