New York City made stop and search laws in belief that it would lower the rate of violent crimes. Stop and frisk laws allow police to pat down any suspicious person. The amount of people being stopped has reached a high number. Of those many people, it seems that law enforcement is singling out certain races. These races being mainly Latino or African American.
This article argues the fact that the "stop-and-frisk" program implemented in the beginning of the 1990's doesn't help in reducing crime rate; however, there are substantial evidence that say it has been used by NYPD officials as a way of discrimination towards minorities.
Author D B Kopel argues that gun control in countries like Great Britain, Australia, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, and Jamaica is not the reason for their low crime rate. In fact he states that their gun control law is the cause for more burglaries and that gun registration has been proven in these countries to be valueless in solving or preventing crimes.
Here is a website about the freedom to bear arms and it has three links to three common myths about gun control. Namely,
Three Myths:
#1: A Gun In The Home Means You Are Three Times More Likely To Be Killed
#2: Children Gun Deaths Are At Epidemic Proportions
#3: Gun Control Has Reduced The Crime Rates In Other Countries
Each of these is a great article talking about each myth.
This article is about whether or not people should be able to carry a gun. The number of states allowing the "right to carry" law has gone from 8 to 31 since 1985. With more relaxed gun laws in right to carry states, murders dropped and average of 8%. In states that don't have the right to carry law murders and rapes increased.
