In one year ages ranging from 0-19, 17,499 shootings happen from homicides, assaults, suicides, suicide attempts, accidental shootings and police intervene. 40% of guns sold in America are sold without a background check.

By focusing on certain categories of mental illness researchers say federal gun law overlooks those at greater risk of violence. The government believes that it is very important that they keep guns away from the mentally ill individuals in our society.

Those with mental illness are shown to have a higher risk of acting out violent crimes (specifically with the use of a gun). However, this is not the case all of the time due to the fact that there are still an abundant amount of shootings each year where the criminal(s) behind the weapon do not have any mental illnesses. We should be looking into the psychological factors of the criminals behind the gun, but also doing more extensive background checks and setting stricter limitations on who is able to purchase/receive guns.

In this article it gives both pros and cons of enacting the gun laws. Tells you both aspects of how certain situations can be reduce for example suicide. Some people believe if the government would have a stricter laws for gun control. Less harm of hurting others or yourself can have a big role. In 1995, a permit-to-purchase handgun law went into effect in Connecticut, stating that people who want to buy a gun must apply for a license (or permit) with the local police, a process that involves a background check, as well as complete at least eight hours of gun safety training. Since this law, homicide has seen a reduction in that area but there is still more that needs to be done.

I strongly believe whatever we sign or agree to with keeping our personal life a secret, there is always going to be something there violating our personal rights. We as humans are all different and come from different backgrounds but sine we are not the "law" or we do not know more than the FBI or Apple, they will continue to think it is okay to violate our privacy.

Mike Rowe talks about what would actually happen if heavier gun control laws were laid down. He talks about how he thinks a heavier background check would not do much to a criminal purchasing a gun illegally. He says then that if we cannot control the government, why would we want to make it bigger by handing over our guns.

We do need stronger gun control laws, but either way I feel as if anyone now a days think its okay to have self defense as in automatically killing someone. Self defense is a mechanism as to which keeps oneself safe, as well as stopping the offender in a way that does not kill them, only stops; by saying that does not mean "go kill them" and that is what most people believe now a days is what self defense is, just by killing another individual.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley signed a bill into law Thursday that will bring down the Confederate flag outside the Statehouse, a move that seemed unthinkable only a month ago in this Deep South state that was the first to secede from the Union.

This can go either way for people with different backgrounds. The flag can either mean independence and freedom but some take it as being different from the U.S. and it is tied to racism even,
